PAYING FOR ELDERLY PEOPLE TO LIVE IN CARE HOMES
发表于:2011-03-23

Many elderly mentally challenged men need to live in care homes which few can afford.

In China it is the duty of your children to look after you when you get older, but what happens if you have never married and have no children?

Many of the men that we help have spent their lives begging for every meal and sleeping rough on the streets. This is of course a life that few of us could imagine having to endure. A life that becomes even harder as you age.

With the help of a church group in Henan, who are working to help elderly people in a cluster of villages, we have been able to come to the aid of several men who have lived lives such as described above.

For only 4,000 rmb per year an old man can live in a home where he is cared for, has a warm bed with centrally heated room, meals served 3 times a day – and for the first time in his life he has companionship – something he never knew before as no-one wished to be his friend while he begged on the streets.

4,000rmb a year is less than 350 UK pounds per month – yet for these men it is like winning the lottery.
