We volunteers enjoy chatting with each other or discussing new ideas for the online sale while we are sorting and pricing the books. But the most fun is the peaks we take at the new donated clothes and jewellery, which we often end up buying. With all this I also inspired my daughter last summer to join in and help as well, since then she has tried to come on regular basis and as often as possible. Just like me she enjoys the volunteering, by sorting books or games, as well as the shopping of clothes and jewellery a lot.
Nevertheless I find myself smiling the biggest, once I see that the once beautifully organised bookshelves in the store are empty and need to be filled up, because many of the great books were sold. It is not just the volunteer work that we do, which helps children in need, but also all of their nice second- hand sales that makes it so important for us. The concept of the second hand sales really speaks to me personally, as I think it is a great way of sharing and reusing the different resources. Important to mention is also that we both have found a number of friends within this community and often describe it as a small oasis to get away from daily stress, it is about the community, friends and creativity that brings us there constantly.
Last year my friends had the idea to set up the online Roundabout WeChat sales groups, which is one of the modernisations Roundabout has added, while it simultaneously helped us sell more books during the pandemic. Especially with the pandemic, Roundabout has tried to keep the doors open for everybody to continue their second-hand store.
